Deurganckdok 13-Hour Measurements
Last October, Aqua Vision carried out vessel-mounted ADCP measurements in the Deurganckdok in the harbor of Antwerp. These 13-hour measurements, carried out during spring- and neaptide, are part of an ongoing program to monitor turbidity in the Antwerp harbor docks. The survey consisted of measuring both tidal flow as well as suspended sediment concentrations in the entrance of the harbor dock near the Scheldt river. The sediment concentrations were determined from the ADCP data using the latest version of the ViSea Plume Detection Toolbox. Results show multiple interesting phenomena occurring at this location, such as horizontal stratification, tidal eddies, and the effects of passing ships. According to the PDT, approximately 1000 tons of fine sediment get deposited inside the dock each tidal period.
