Hydrographer
As a Hydrographer, you are responsible for independently preparing, executing, and processing hydrographic measurements. You play a key role in ensuring the reliability and quality of measurement data by commissioning, maintaining, and calibrating advanced measurement equipment. Through your technical expertise and attention to detail, you contribute directly to accurate insights that support water management and engineering projects.
Key Result Areas
Commissioning of Equipment
- Studying technical documentation, diagrams, and manuals;
- Coordinating with suppliers and manufacturers;
- Setting up and testing configurations;
- Preparing new measurement equipment and software for operational use.
Maintenance and Calibration
- Performing periodic inspections and functional checks;
- Testing equipment after deployment and prior to use;
- Installing firmware updates and upgrades;
- Calibrating measurement equipment and preparing calibration reports;
- Identifying and resolving malfunctions and deviations.
Preparation and Execution of Measurements
- Conducting site investigations;
- Preparing measurement plans;
- Building and preparing measurement setups;
- Performing hydrographic surveys, discharge measurements, and high-water measurements;
- Recording, processing, and verifying measurement data.
Communication and Coordination
- Consulting with project managers regarding malfunctions, planning, and execution;
- Coordinating equipment availability and deployment;
- Maintaining contact with suppliers and technical services;
- Informing and advising clients on execution and results.
Responsibilities
- Ensuring measurement accuracy and data quality;
- Maintaining optimal condition and availability of equipment (in collaboration with the Technical Department);
- Timely and accurate reporting of activities;
- Complying with safety, health and safety (HSE), and quality regulations;
- Careful handling of equipment and measurement data.
Job Requirements
Education and Knowledge
- HBO working and thinking level, preferably in Hydrography, Geo-information, Civil Engineering, Water Management or similar;
- Knowledge of hydrographic measurement systems (e.g. multibeam, singlebeam, ADCP);
- Knowledge of measurement and positioning systems and data processing;
- Basic knowledge of nautical safety and relevant laws and regulations;
- Good command of the Dutch language and preferably also English (because of technical documentation
Experience
- Demonstrable experience with hydrographic measurements and survey work;
- Experience with measurement software and data processing programs;
- Experience in maintaining and calibrating measuring equipment is an advantage;
- Affinity with technology and IT systems.

Additional Requirements
- Possession of a valid driver’s license (Category B);
- Knowledge of MS Office and Teams;
- Willingness to work on-site and occasionally outside regular working hours;
- Possession of or willingness to obtain relevant certifications (e.g., VCA, marine radio certificate).
